It was with a heavy heart that the committee here at Maghull Musical Theatre Company had to make the difficult decision, that due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown enforced by the UK government, that we ended our rehearsals and rescheduled all upcoming performances.
This was not something that was taken lightly but was enforced for the safety of the members of our company, as well as all involved in our productions at the Little Theatre Southport but most importantly you our loyal audience.
Therefore, we will sadly no longer be performing any shows planned for 2020.
Looking to the future…
We cannot wait to get back to what we love most, performing! So what's next for MMTC?
GUYS & DOLLS:16th -19th JUNE 2021
Our next production will be the lively Guys and Dolls in June 2021, this will be directed by Betty Hall, Choreographed by Suzanne Morris, with Musical Direction from Charles Moss.
Guys and Dolls is a musical romantic comedy set in the golden age of the 1950’s involving the unlikeliest of Manhattan pairings: a high-rolling gambler and a puritanical missionary, a showgirl dreaming of the straight-and-narrow and a craps game manager who is anything but. The tale is set in the Manhattan of Damon Runyon’s short stories.
Guys and Dolls features some of Frank Loesser’s most memorable tunes, including the hilarious “Adelaide’s Lament,” the romantic “I’ve Never Been in Love Before,” the exuberant “If I Were a Bell,” foot stomping “Sit down you're rocking the boat” and the classic “Luck Be a Lady.”
Calamity Jane : 3rd - 6th November 2021
Due to Covid-19 we had no alternative but to push our June 2020 show back, but it will return in November 2021 with the same production team featuring direction by Les Longley, musical direction from Charles Moss and we can't wait to see the can-can completed by Sarah Fletcher who will be choreographing the show
This musical western is adapted from the celebrated stage-play and film starring Doris Day.
Set in Deadwood city in the heart of the Dakota territory we meet 'Calam' a frontier woman (based on the real life figure Jane ‘calamity’ canary) she dresses like a man, totes a gun and charges the stagecoach.
Well-meaning, but disaster-prone, she tries to help the local saloon proprietor out of a jam by promising to fetch a music-hall star from Chicago. A hilarious comedy, it nevertheless has many tender moments and some very famous numbers, including "Secret Love", "Black Hills of Dakota, "Deadwood Stage" and "Windy City".
Jekyll & Hyde - June 2022
Our next production in June 2022, the year MMTC celebrates 50 years of musical theatre will be Jekyll and Hyde, this will be the second time MMTC perform this dynamic and dramatic production, it will be directed by Ian Culshaw along with assistant director and choreographer Betty Hall and the epic musical with be directed by Charles Moss.
An evocative tale of two men – one, a doctor, passionate and romantic; the other, a terrifying madman – and two women – one, beautiful and trusting; the other, beautiful and trusting only herself– both women in love with the same man and both unaware of his dark secret. A devoted man of science, Dr. Henry Jekyll is driven to find a chemical breakthrough that can solve some of mankind's most challenging medical dilemmas. Rebuffed by the powers that be, he decides to make himself the subject of his own experimental treatments, accidentally unleashing his inner demons along with the man that the world would come to know as Mr. Hyde.
The epic struggle between good and evil comes to life on stage in the musical phenomenon, Jekyll & Hyde. Based on the classic story by Robert Louis Stevenson and featuring a thrilling score of pop rock hits from multi-Grammy- and Tony-nominated Frank Wildhorn and double-Oscar- and Grammy-winning Leslie Bricusse, Jekyll & Hyde has mesmerized audiences the world over.
Featuring powerful songs such as “Someone like you”, “Murder, Murder”, “In his eyes” and the iconic “This is the moment!”
We can't wait to welcome you back to watch these incredible productions!
